The World’s First Whiskey Distiller
A 526-year-old legend lives on…in a whiskey named Friar John Cor.
The earliest recorded evidence of whiskey was distilled by a Scottish Friar named John Cor in 1494. His magical liquid was originally called “aqua vitae” (the water of life), a common Latin name for liquor at that time. In this case, it meant whisky.
Our FRIAR JOHN COR Whiskey pays homage to that incredible breakthrough over 500 years ago. In the famous Exchequer Rolls of James IV, the King wrote: “To Friar John... by order of the King, to make aqua vitae VIII bolls of malt.”
It's fair to say Friar John Cor could not have imagined his newly distilled spirit would eventually become so wildly popular throughout the world.
The United States alone produces 37 million cases of whiskey a year. Today whiskey (or whisky, depending on where it’s made) is distilled in over 10 countries around the world.
FRIAR JOHN COR Whiskey is handmade in small batches in an old-world style. The whiskey's mash bill is primarily corn, aged in oak barrels and bottled at 80-proof. The whiskey has a beautiful, light amber color, a honey-scented aroma and a slightly fruity flavor profile, making it gentle on the palate and smooth on the finish.
